Professional Development and Hospitality English
Freshly arrived from Dakar in Senegal, where they had opened, managed and sold an English language centre (www.englishindakar.com), Julianne and Michael arrived in Marrakech in June 2010. Julianne and Michael have now opened fulbridge, a professional English centre providing riads, hotels and businesses in Marrakech with Business English training solutions in general and hospitality English in particular. "Although professionally successful, we were tired of the constant power cuts and the ever present moquitoes", Julianne says. "We also wanted to be closer to the UK as I am very close to my family and flights from Dakar to the UK are very expensive, especially since our son is now 2 and pays full price". Everywhere we've been in Marrakech, people are interested in what we do says Michael. Despite the crisis, the number of English visitors to Marrakech has risen, especially in the wake of BA resuming flights to Marrakech. BA expects Marrakech to be one of the 4 most popular tourist destinations. Furthermore, official data from the ministry of tourism shows a gradual decline of french speaking visitors to the Red City (as a proportion of the total), with Germans, Belgian (Flemish) and Dutch visitors steadily on the increase. Now more than ever, English is the working language in hospitality and tourism. Although many self taught tourist professionals show good english skills, consistency is an issue. Too many of our visitors have complained on tripadvisor about being treated as a second class guests in our hotel, says an executive in a local 5 star hotel. We need to improve the general English of our staff and management if we want to capture a greater share of the growing number of English speaking visitors to Marrakech. Fulbridge provides on site hospitality English training for riads, hotels, spas and restaurants, as well as Business English training for local captains of industry. Their philosophy is summed up by their motto: One world, be part of it. We aim to help all Marakchis reach out to the rest of the world and make the most of their skills and competences by fine tuning their English\'
