Who we are
Eslbase.com is run by Eslbase, a partnership based in the United Kingdom. The same partnership also runs School of TEFL, which provides TEFL courses. Where these terms say “we”, “our” or “us”, they mean that partnership. “You” means anyone using this website.
You can reach us at eslbase@eslbase.com or write to us at 69 Hillcrest Road, Portishead, Bristol, BS20 8HN, United Kingdom. That is also the address for serving any legal document relating to the business. The names of the partners are available on request.
The School of TEFL connection matters twice below. Articles on Eslbase sometimes recommend School of TEFL courses, and where they do we say so on the page. And where we introduce you to an employer, buying a course from us is never part of the arrangement.
If you book a course with School of TEFL, that purchase is governed by the School of TEFL enrolment agreement rather than by these terms.
Using this website
By using Eslbase you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, please stop using the site. You must not use Eslbase for any unlawful purpose.
What Eslbase is, and what it is not
Eslbase publishes research and reference material for people considering teaching English abroad, alongside job listings, directories of schools and course providers, and a small number of paid products.
We are not immigration advisers, lawyers, accountants or financial advisers. Nothing on Eslbase is immigration, legal, tax or financial advice, and reading the site or corresponding with us does not create an adviser and client relationship.
Whether you can obtain a visa, work legally or expect a particular salary depends on your nationality, your qualifications, your circumstances and the rules in force at the time. Only you can confirm those things for your own situation. We publish this material so that you can make a better informed decision. We cannot make the decision for you, and we cannot promise that any job, visa or placement will follow.
How current our information is
We take care over accuracy and follow the sourcing and correction practices set out in our Editorial Guidelines.
Salaries, living costs, tax rates and exchange rates are indicative estimates drawn from published sources, including Numbeo and official government data. They are dated where they appear and are correct only as at that date. Currency movements, inflation and changing local conditions can make them out of date quickly.
Visa, work permit and immigration rules change without notice, and are applied differently depending on your nationality, the consulate you deal with, your employer and your circumstances. Always confirm the current position with official government sources, and with your employer, before committing money or travel.
Where we find a material error we correct it, and where the correction is significant we say that we have made it.
If you advertise a job, course or school with us
Anything you post must relate directly to the job, course or school being advertised, must be accurate, and must not infringe copyright or break any law. Images must be your own or licensed to you. A job you advertise must be a real vacancy, and the terms you offer applicants must comply with employment law in the country where the job is based.
We do not knowingly publish advertisements that discriminate on grounds of race, nationality, ethnic or national origin, sex, age, religion or belief, disability, sexual orientation, gender reassignment, marriage or civil partnership, or pregnancy and maternity. This includes advertisements restricted to “native speakers” or to passport holders of particular countries. Where a genuine legal restriction applies in the country concerned, such as a visa rule limiting eligibility by nationality, the advertisement must state the restriction and identify it as a legal requirement. We may amend or remove any advertisement that does not meet this standard, and we may amend or remove advertisements for other reasons at our discretion. We may include tracking code in advertiser links to produce statistics.
Advertising is sold to businesses. If you buy advertising as a consumer rather than in the course of a business, you have 14 days to cancel under the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013. If you want us to publish before that period ends, you must expressly ask us to begin and accept that you will lose the right to cancel once we have fully performed. If you cancel part way through, you must pay for what has been supplied.
If you are responding to a listing
Except where the section below applies, we do not check and cannot vouch for the accuracy or legality of information in a job advertisement, course advertisement, school listing or anything else supplied by a user or advertiser. We are not part of any application, communication or contract between you and an advertiser or another user, and we are not responsible for the outcome. You should take the same precautions you would with any other prospective employer.
We may remove listings, but we do not undertake to monitor them. If you have a concern about a listing, please contact us.
When we introduce you to an employer
For some roles we do more than publish an advertisement. We pass suitable CVs to schools and other employers, and receive a commission from them if a teacher is hired. Roles handled this way can be identified by an application address ending “@eslbase.com”, or by an application form on the Eslbase website. You can also add your CV to our database for employers to view.
Where we work this way:
- We never charge you for finding you work, or for trying to. Our commission is paid by the employer.
- You do not need to buy anything from us to be introduced to an employer. Taking a School of TEFL course, or any other product we sell, is not a condition of an introduction and does not entitle you to one.
- We pass on what the employer tells us. We are not the employer, we are not party to your contract, and we do not control pay, conditions or how an employer behaves.
- We cannot guarantee that an application leads to an offer, that an offer leads to a visa, or that a placement meets your expectations. Confirming that you are eligible to work in the country concerned remains your responsibility.
Adding your own content
Anything you submit must be accurate and lawful, must not be offensive or threatening, and must not infringe anyone else’s rights. It must be your own work, or something you have the right to submit. We do not verify who owns submitted content, and that responsibility rests with you.
We may remove anything that breaches these terms or infringes copyright. If you paid a fee for the submission and we remove it for one of those reasons, we will not refund it.
Comments and course reviews are held for moderation, and publication is at our discretion. Reviews must reflect your own honest experience. We do not publish reviews in exchange for payment, and we do not remove a review at the request of the provider reviewed unless it breaches these terms or the law.
Buying from us
Some products we previously sold are no longer available to buy, including the Grammar for English Teachers course. If you bought access to one of these before we withdrew it, you keep the access you paid for, and this section continues to apply to you.
Where a product was sold with “lifetime access” or a “lifetime licence”, lifetime means the working life of the product, not yours, as set out in the terms in force when it was sold. We will keep such products running for as long as is reasonably practicable. If we decide to withdraw one, we will give you at least 90 days’ notice using the contact details we hold, and you will be able to download the materials your licence covers during that period.
If you buy digital content or a digital service from us as a consumer, the Consumer Rights Act 2015 requires it to be of satisfactory quality, fit for purpose and as described. Nothing in these terms affects those rights.
Our teaching resources carry a 30 day refund policy. To request a refund, email eslbase@eslbase.com within 30 days of purchase. After that we refund only in exceptional circumstances. This policy is in addition to your statutory rights, which are not limited to 30 days.
Copyright
Copyright, trade marks and other intellectual property rights in Eslbase and its content belong to us, are licensed to us, or are used by us as the law permits.
You may read, download and print pages of Eslbase for your own personal, non-commercial use, and you may download and print our resources and lesson plans to use in the classroom.
Nothing in these terms restricts your rights under the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988, including fair dealing for research or private study, criticism or review, quotation, and reporting current events.
You are welcome to quote short extracts, provided you credit Eslbase and link to the page quoted. Beyond that, our content may not be copied, republished, redistributed or used to train machine learning or artificial intelligence systems without our written permission. This includes paid course materials, which are licensed to the person who bought them.

What we are responsible for, and what we are not
Nothing in these terms limits or excludes our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, for any breach of the Consumer Rights Act 2015 that cannot lawfully be excluded, or for anything else the law does not allow us to exclude. Everything below is subject to that.
Much of the content on Eslbase is supplied by users and advertisers. We have no control over it and, so far as the law allows, we give no warranty as to its truth, accuracy or reliability. It is provided as it stands.
We do not warrant that the site will be uninterrupted or free of errors, that defects will be corrected, or that the site and its servers are free of viruses. We are not responsible for losses caused by delays or failures at our service providers, or where access to the site is blocked or restricted in a particular country.
Where you use Eslbase without buying anything from us, we are not liable for loss or damage arising from your use of the site or your reliance on its content, so far as the law allows us to exclude that liability.
Where you have bought a product or service from us, our total liability in connection with it is limited to the amount you paid.
In either case we are not liable for loss of profit, business, opportunity or data, or for any loss that was not reasonably foreseeable when you began using the site or made the purchase.
We are not liable for any dealing between you and an employer, advertiser, school, course provider or other user, except where the introductions section above applies and the loss results from our own breach of these terms or of the duties the law places on employment agencies.
If you are a consumer, none of this affects your statutory rights.
If you use Eslbase in the course of a business
This section applies only if you use Eslbase in the course of a business, as an advertiser, employer, school or course provider. It does not apply to consumers.
You agree to cover our liabilities, legal fees, damages, losses and costs arising from any claim brought against us as a result of your breach of these terms, your advertisements or listings, or a contract you enter into with a user through Eslbase.
Changes to the site and to these terms
We may change or remove the site, or any part of it, at any time and without notice.
We may also change these terms. Where we do, we will update the date at the top of this page. Changes apply from the date they are published and do not apply retrospectively to a purchase you have already made or a transaction already completed. If a change materially affects a paid product you have access to, we will tell you directly where we hold contact details for you.
Privacy
Our Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use and protect your personal information.
Links to other websites
Eslbase includes links to sites run by others. A link is not an endorsement, and we are not responsible for the content or availability of a linked site.
Severance
If a court of competent jurisdiction finds any part of these terms invalid, illegal or unenforceable, that part is severed and the remainder continues in full force.
Law and disputes
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction over any dispute arising from them.
If you are a consumer resident outside England and Wales, nothing here removes the protection of any mandatory law in your own country, or any right you have to bring proceedings in the courts there.
We make no claim that this site may lawfully be accessed from every country. If you access Eslbase from outside the United Kingdom, complying with your own local law is your responsibility.
