Course details

The Cambridge Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults (CELTA) is one of the world's foremost initial pre-service qualifications for people who are interested in becoming a professional teacher of the English language. It is accepted throughout the world by organizations that employ English language teachers.

The YMCA Cambridge CELTA Program is 130 hours in length and is recognised by TESL Canada as a qualification for English language teaching in Canada. Sessions are held several times a year and are intensive four- or five-week courses.

2006 Courses:
February 20 - March 24 (5-week course)
April 24 - May 19
June 5 - June 30
September 5 - October 6 (5-week course)
October 30 - November 24

It is recommended that candidates have a standard of education equivalent to that required for entry into post-secondary education. However, candidates who do not have formal qualifications at this level but who can demonstrate appropriate language competence, skills and experience are considered by the YMCA International College. Candidates do not need to have English as their first language but must have a standard of English that will enable them to teach at a range of levels.

Trainees who are non-native speakers of English must prove proficiency in English by submitting official documentation for English proficiency tests before they commence the program.
