Job description

Introduction:

You did the work. The diploma, the TEFL, the real hours in front of real learners. So why does teaching still mean long commutes, overcrowded classrooms, and a paycheck that never quite reflects the effort?

Here's a different version of the job. Same skills, same passion — but now from your own home, on a schedule you build yourself, earning in US dollars.

The Really Great Teacher Company is looking for qualified, South Africa-based English teachers to teach young learners online. If you're energetic, love working with young learners, and want your qualifications to finally count for something — keep reading.

Position Details:

  • Start Date: Immediate, upon completion of recruitment and onboarding

  • Location: 100% remote — must be based in South Africa

  • Students: Young learners aged 4–16, based in China, proficiency A1–C1

  • Class Type: One-on-one and one-on-two (max two learners per class)

  • Language of Instruction: English

  • Platform: ClassIn

  • Rate: US$6.50 per hour

  • Class Duration: 25 minutes (regular); 21–25 minutes (demo)

  • Contract Type: Independent Contractor (remote)

  • Hours: Minimum 14 hours per week, within the teaching window of 12:00–15:30 SAST (18:00–21:30 BJT), Monday to Sunday with one weekend day. You decide how to spread your hours — up to a maximum of six days a week.

  • Bookings: Hours run on student bookings rather than fixed guaranteed hours. Reliable teachers with regular students tend to build steady, recurring schedules.
