About Taiwan
• Lay of the land: The majority of Taiwan’s 23 million people (and all HESS schools!) are located on Taiwan’s main island and live in highly-urbanized cities on the west coast, with mountain ranges separating the west from the small towns and beaches of the east coast. Taiwan is sub-tropical in the north and tropical in the south, with warm, humid, and sometimes rainy weather throughout the year. Excellent transportation links connect every corner of Taiwan and Taiwan’s outlying islands. Taiwan is also the perfect home base for vacationing across East and Southeast Asia.
• Famous for: Open society, friendly people, safety, delicious night market snacks, excellent hiking and biking, hot and cold springs, fascinating history, unique cultural offerings, and so much more
• Languages: Mandarin is the common language, and many of our teachers learn some Mandarin during their time in Taiwan. Taiwanese, Hakka, and indigenous languages are also spoken here.
Salary and benefits
• Secure Hours: You are guaranteed a minimum of 20 teaching hours per week. Our teachers average 25-26 teaching hours per week.
• Flexible time off: Receive seven days of sick leave and 14 days of flexible vacation time in your first year and an additional month of leave from your second year.
• Training and Curriculum Provided: Learn best practices for teaching English as a foreign language using our curriculum alongside new and experienced educators. Build transferrable skills that will enable your success in Taiwan and future ventures in and beyond education.
• Immigration Assistance: We sponsor and help you obtain all the documents needed to legally live and work in Taiwan.
• House-hunting Assistance: Staff at the school will help line up apartment viewings based on your criteria
• Advancement Opportunities: Receive annual raise evaluations and contract completion bonuses, become the head teacher of your school, or get involved with the curriculum development, recruitment, and training teams.
Requirements
• A bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited university or college
• Must be able to pass a national-level criminal background check
