TEFL Course Review

I successfully completed the level 5 TEFL course from the TEFL Academy. In my opinion, the course was well structured. It also covered in detail how to teach English grammar which is one of the most important components of teaching English. I am already an English Assistant in a school so I could apply what I was learning in this course in my classes. The course taught me to personalize lessons and do a needs analysis when teaching one on one. I found this very helpful when tutoring students one on one. I would recommend this course for anyone who is willing to take their hobby of teaching English to another level where they want to build a professional career in teaching English. I didn't realize that once I finished this course there would be a world of English teaching opportunities waiting for me! This has really changed my career path.

TEFL Academy Online 168 Course Review

The course is very basic, you review the online modules that are provided and take tests based on the modules. It is very easy to complete the course within a month if you are motivated. I was able to learn a lot from the course about teaching English as a foreign language which provided me with a good base for my teaching career as an ESL teacher.
The website claims that they will have job guidance for students are completing the course, but this is minimal and almost nonexistent. I found my job working as an ESL teacher independent of TEFL academy.

Overall I think this is not the course to take if you are looking to secure a job and it would be more beneficial to take a course with in-person practical teaching hours.

My 168 Hour Level 5 Review

My Review for the online course is that the course, study material, support were good. Unfortunately, I couldn't get a job as of now. I was given the CV jazz up support yet it didn't cut ice for me. The course provider is not at fault, probably I'm a non native speaker and this is playing a precluding role in my failure.

Absolutely useful and informative course

The course that I had a chance to take was wonderful: well-structured, clearly provided information - it will not cause problems even for students of not profound language skills. All tasks were scrupulously checked and analyzed by tutors who provided comprehensive comments and left useful recommendations that turned to be helpful.

Not as hype as it shows

It was an ok course but needs to improve their assistance with recent teacher graduates in order for them to establish their teaching career.
But apart from that they have been a good institution for providing a good online course for TEFL course.

Very detailed - but I think we could have done the course cheaper.

Tefl academy is easy to progress through. The website is easy to use, although there are points within the text in which it seems students are getting told off (NOTE YOU CAN ONLY ATTEMPT THIS THREE TIMES! - is not the most supportive way).

The course is great but I feel we could've achieved the same qual at a lower price elsewhere.

I had the most amazing experience while doing my TEFL course. The course was very insightful, and easy to follow through.

The online program is well structured and easy to work on. The instruction are also very relevant and easy to follow.

The classroom part was the most amazing, the instructor was very easy going, and funny, she explains everything to the dot. I enjoyed every minute of it. I would prefer it to take more days though, the one weekend seems so short, but we completed everything that was supposed to be covered.

This course is the one thing I am so proud to have done for myself.

I truly recommend it to anyone who has a passion for teaching and travelling.

At 78 with a BA and then post-graduate studies in Adult Education as well extensive teaching experience, I have no hesitation in recommending this course.

The online learning units are very well presented and the tutors are outstanding.

Best of all is the student 0800 support line which functions 24/7.

Amazing tefl course, great value for money

I have never been proud of my decisions before, until I did my course with the Tefl Academy, I enjoyed every minute of it. The online system is well structured and easy to work on, and oh, the classroom practicals were amazing. It seemed like it was going to be a long weekend but no, the tutor was brilliant. The course was engaging and entertaining, however, the course it challenging , but that what makes it more meaningful, I personally enjoyed and loved it. I learnt a lot.

I already had an English degree and Teacher/Trainer experience, so I just needed the context of TESL/TEFL to add to my skill set. I found the course useful in this context, but a bit too focused on THEIR particular method, and quite full of jargon.

Good Course, just unnecessarily tedious

The course is a good course. Especially the contact class you get to attend if you choose to do the combined course.

I just found it to be tedious and excruciatingly long. Especially with the 3 Assignments which had to be done at the end of the units (Over and above the quizzes one has to get done throughout the different modules). For one thing, the instructions are too cluttered and are not presented in a clear and concise manner. Making it tough to understand the instructions easily (keep in mind that I have received my entire schooling career, including university, in English which means I don't particularly struggle with comprehension skills).

However, those assignments are almost set up as if to confuse you. I also don't really understand the whole point of having so many assignments/ assessments. Maybe it is to fill up the 168 hours they claim the thing is worth. The assignments are just over-kill if you ask me.

A piece of advice would be for you to rather go for a cheaper TEFL program or go all out for a worthwhile CELTA certificate. Because taking a course with this company is definitely not worth it in my book considering the time it takes.

Worth the money!

The TEFL Academy TEFL course is well structured and presented, very clear and easy to understand! I feel a lot more confident now with TEFL after completing this 120h on-line course. It has loads of interesting material and lots of practical hints and tips. It really does equip you to teach English as a foreign language.

This is a comprehensive 4-6 week course.
You have an option to do 20 hours of contact learning.
Plenty of support provided by the TEFL Academy.
The course is also affordable & is a legitimate course.

I recommend registering for the Online course + 20 hour contact learning class.

I really enjoyed The TEFL academy course when I attended in Nottingham. I felt really engaged and the class was taught via the same methods we were using in the class which gave great practical examples of how the classes were structured and taught.

Looking over the TEFL course online materials.
A lot of the assignments were convoluted and overly complicated and often felt confusing and bewildering.
The online course materials had spelling and grammatical errors and a lot of the material was extremely over written. the assignments instructions weren't always clear too so I felt like a lot of time was spent panicking about the terminology and trying to decipher the assignment brief more than the lesson plan since the questions were vague and often extremely difficult to answer even if you know the answers to the questions

Initially, I chose to do my TEFL course with this school, because of its reviews and database of jobs.

I have to say I was very impressed with the load of information and its profundity. All assets of teaching were mentioned and taught. I actually really felt that I was learning something and it stimulated me to start thinking as a teacher. Exams were set up well. Communication around final exams was good. Response was quite quick. The hours in class in Malaga, Spain were well organised. As we were only 4 students we had plenty of chance and time to go into subjects we didn't fully grasp. Also this part was very much needed to have the practical practice of teaching.

The last constructive part for the Academy I want to share is that not so much time is put into the next phase components of the course after finishing. How to apply for jobs, where to find these, how to sell yourself without having experience, etc. Also their database of jobs is very tiny. And still I am not convinced they are really recognized as an official TEFL certificate as I am struggling to get a job in Spain at the moment.
