Hangzhou Early Bird Training School
A positive attitude in the classroom leads to positive results in English development learning. Our school is a Training School, which means our students have been at regular school all day before they get to Early Bird. By integrating exciting games and activities with our teaching plans we can create a positive environment that gets kids excited about learning English. Many times, our students won’t even realize how much they are learning. In our classrooms, it is just as important that the children are enjoying themselves as it is they are learning English.
When a new teacher first starts at Early Bird, they are not put in a classroom with their own students until they, and the school, feel they are prepared. The training period at Early Bird is typically a month-long process involving watching classes, working through detailed training materials, going over teaching videos that cover a range of topics, and working closely with our more experienced teachers. Our active and unique teaching style has proven itself effective, and we will do everything we need to ensure that you have the skills necessary to succeed in the classroom.
Our school provides its teachers with a fully furnished 1 room apartment located close to the school and the other foreign teachers. The apartment complex is new, with modern features and access to restaurants, shops, and other amenities. The apartments also look out over a gorgeous national park called Hushangongyuan. In their free time, our teachers like to climb the mountains, walk through the bamboo forest, play ping-pong and Mahjong with locals, or simply enjoy the beautiful nature. The school is a brief 10-15 minute walk from the apartment complex, depending on the length of your legs. We do not have a leg length requirement for our teachers.
Salaries start at 9,000-16,000 RMB per month depending on experience. The cost of living in Hangzhou is very low. Many of our teachers are able to spend 3,000-5,000 RMB per month and still live very comfortably while enjoying Hangzhou's active social scene. As one of the up and coming cities in China, Hangzhou has many exciting activities available for the world traveler, whether you're looking for nature, night-life, or cultural experiences. Upon completion of the contract, we also provide a 5,000 RMB bonus to reward our teachers for their hard work.
At Early Bird, we run under a western management system. We are quite aware of the horror stories of foreign teachers being taken advantage of and cheated by management at other training schools, and we assure you this is not one of those schools. We strive to make sure our teachers are well taken care of, and have the support they need to succeed in a new country. When I first arrived in China, I was hired by a school that did not have my best interests at heart.
This was a major factor in my decision to start my own school. I wanted to create a school that has the best interests of its teachers in mind. We don't want to simply provide a teacher with a job, but also provide them with a happy life in China, in and out of the work place. At Early Bird, we are a collection of individuals working together in a communal atmosphere. I've always felt it’s very important to have cohesion between all the parts of a school, to make sure it works effectively. Open and honest communication is necessary to facilitate a smooth and happy working environment. In teaching, there is always room for improvement, regardless of whether you've been teaching for 10 days or 10 years. All of our teachers are happy to help with games and lesson plans, and are always looking for new ways to improve their own skills. We consider everyone here family and want to keep our group strong. If you would like to hear what our teachers think as well, they would be happy to shed light on how our work environment feels with you directly. You'll find that we have a fun, effective and friendly work environment that challenges our teachers while giving them the skills they need to succeed.
I understand the concerns you may have about coming alone to China as a non-Chinese speaker, and venturing outside of your comfort zone. I will do everything in my power to help you with that transition, and I will not put anyone through what I went through when I first arrived. Any situation that may arise, we are happy, willing, and more than able to help. I mean anything, from something as serious as sickness, to making friends in a new city, to finding the best noodle stand to get chow mein. Our teachers are more than just coworkers, we are friends, partners, and teammates. We are here to provide you with a comfortable and safe atmosphere in and out of the workplace.
