Job title

English Teacher

Job description

We are looking for 1 individual teacher to take on 24 hours’ teaching per week, or – alternatively – a couple who would be happy to share 24 – 32 hours between themselves (however, we must stress that BOTH partners meet the requirements below).

The successful candidate will be expected to teach groups of young learners, teens, and adults across all levels, teaching general English courses and exam preparation courses (older teens and adults, only).

We use textbooks that are teacher-friendly, and teachers are provided with an easy-to-follow course plan to help them navigate the year. In addition to this, we have a well-stocked teacher library of supplementary resources. Teachers can also take advantage of a variety of games, crafts materials, CDs and videos, and wifi to add colour and excitement to their lessons. The school is also equipped with a computer room with an interactive whiteboard. Academic support from the Director of Studies is always available if needed.

While we do take pride in our high standards, that doesn’t mean that we take ourselves too seriously. In fact we like to play as hard as we work, so be prepared to enjoy the occasional slice of pizza when a student gets 100% on a test, or to sample the delights of our students’ baking when they bring in a cake for… well, just because! We also like to put on fun activities at the holidays – Halloween, Christmas, Easter, and Last Day of Term (see our Facebook page for pics!).

The contract will run from October 1st 2020 to June 18th 2021.

Salary and benefits

-- The net monthly wage, October - May is 1200 euros based on 24 teaching hours per week. June, being a 3-week month including two bank holidays will be paid pro-rata.
-- All national and local holidays paid
-- Extensive help in finding accommodation and settling in
-- A crash course in survival Spanish, if necessary
-- Living in Jaen! A city that is not too big, not too small, Jaen has something for everybody, be they night owls, nature lovers, or sporty types. Travellers will find Jaen to be a perfect “base of operations” from which to explore: it is well-connected by bus to the other major cities of Andalusia, and by train to Madrid.

The applicant should have a CELTA or Trinity CertTESOL, at least 2 years’ experience of teaching the abovementioned ages, and be familiar with the Cambridge Exams suite. Personality-wise, we will be a good fit for each other if you are conscientious and organised, if you love to help people and if you derive satisfaction from playing a part in your students’ and your school’s successes.

How to apply

To apply, please write to Joseph Coventry, Director of Studies, at, attaching your CV and including a few details about yourself.

Teachers from outside the European Union and the United Kingdom must already have permission to work in Spain before applying.

Successful applicants will be contacted for a Skype interview.

Please note that when advertising a vacancy in the past we have received an enormous number of responses, and because of this we are – regrettably – unable to give courtesy replies to unsuccessful applicants. If you are not contacted within 2 working days of applying, you may consider your application unsuccessful.
