Job title

EFL Teacher

Job description

Enthusiastic and committed native level EFL teachers (native or C2 level qualified) are required for a very well-run language school with an excellent reputation, to teach students ranging from 7 years old to adults, including Cambridge exam preparation, starting immediately in a small Andalusian town that has a very low cost of living and a high quality of life. The contract runs until 30th June 2020.

Positions are for highly-motivated, native level English teachers who hold a CELTA or equivalent and a degree, and who have a minimum of one years’ experience teaching young learners and teenagers in groups, as opposed to one-to-one classes. However, Grade A CELTA candidates will be considered with less previous experience/excellent references.

These are full-time posts of 32 hours; there are 22 teaching hours per week all in the afternoon (no morning or weekend classes): Monday to Friday in the afternoons through to evenings, starting at 4:15pm, with a very short timetable on Fridays of usually only 2 or 3 hours.

The other 10 contracted hours will be spent on class preparation, marking and weekly teacher development sessions, teacher meetings, the occasional one-to-one meetings and carrying our administrative duties (e.g. registers, reports, etc.). We provide opportunities to develop as teachers through in-house training.

We also guarantee our teachers a maximum of 5 or 6 different levels only, which are then repeated throughout the week, so as to greatly reduce class preparation time.

Young learners and teenagers make up our student base and therefore we are extremely interested in teachers who have experience with these groups. We are looking for teachers who genuinely like working with children, believe teaching should be fun and dynamic, and have the necessary enthusiasm and energy.

Teachers may also have one adult group and there will be Cambridge exam preparation classes (KET, PET, FIRST and ADVANCED). There is a maximum of 11 students per class.

The school has a very good reputation and is the largest in the town. It is well-organized, professional and well-resourced with plenty of support and materials for teachers. The work environment is friendly, open and professional, in spacious air-conditioned classrooms (each teacher has their own classroom, so no running from class to class) each equipped with a computer, internet, an interactive whiteboard and projector.

The school is located in Puente Genil, which is in the centre of Andalusia. The town has a population of 30,000 and these positions would suit teachers who prefer a lifestyle away from a big city and who would like the opportunity to experience Spanish life and culture in a town, rather than a city. The plus side of being a town, is that it is extremely cheap to live here. Puente Genil has a train and bus station and is well-situated for seeing Andalusia, being 30 minutes from Cordoba, 2 hours from Malaga, and 1.5 hours from Seville and 2 hours from Granada.

Salary and benefits

Extremely competitive salary for 22 teaching hours per week of 1400€ gross, with increments according to experience.

The teaching timetable is afternoons only with a very short Friday and no weekend work.

Paid induction training.

Opportunities to develop as teachers through professional in-house training sessions for 2 to 3 hours a week during the first term.

Examining work carried out in addition to a teacher's normal timetable will be paid extra.

Full Social Security cover and health cover.

2 weeks fully paid holiday at Christmas, 1 week at Easter plus all local and national holidays.

Full help given in finding accommodation (note that in southern Spain, and being a town, not a city, rental prices are extremely low with the average price of a one-bedroom being 250€/month).

Full help getting residency documents and the administration costs involved will be also be paid by the company. EU passport holders must only apply, as we are unable to obtain residency papers for non-EU passport holders.

Native level English speaker who is eligible to work in Spain.

Possess a university degree and a CELTA or equivalent. Qualified PGCE teachers are also welcome to apply for the post.

A minimum of one year’s experience teaching children in groups, as opposed to one-to-one classes, is required. However, applicants with good CELTA results who have less experience/excellent references will be considered for the post.

Cambridge exam preparation experience is necessary, although strong candidates without it will be considered if willing to be fully trained in the first term in addition to the above-stated workload.

IWB experience is desirable. Again, candidates without it will be considered if willing to be fully trained in the first term in addition to the above-stated workload.

Outstanding classroom management skills are a must, as are excellent organisational skills, flexibility and a willingness to follow our very successful teaching methodology.

2 recent references from previous posts are required, including at least 1 from a teaching post.

Knowledge of Spanish is not necessary, although the ability to live independently is.

The salary is extremely competitive because we expect only highly dedicated, professional teachers. We are an established, friendly school and have the reputation of being the best and most professional school in the town.
