Teacher of English for Young Learners (5 years old and up)

Job description

For the academic year 2024-2025, a small language school in the south of Italy requires a teacher of English and activities for kids aged 5+ years.

The two branches of our language school, part of the British School Group chain https://britishschool.it/ , are located in Melfi (PZ) and Venosa (PZ) in the southern Italian region of Basilicata. Teachers may be required to teach at both schools for which transportation will be provided. Like most other schools, ours too is equipped with computers, internet, projectors, photocopiers, and resource books. At present, our staff consist of 5 teachers, 2 secretaries, and the owners who are hands-on in the day-to-day running of the schools.

We are interested to hear from experienced teachers who are good communicators, comfortable with and competent in dealing with Young Learners, dependable, able to see the contract through to the end, and conscientious in their day-to-day work.

Salary and benefits

CONTRACT: Up to the end of May 2025. The contract is renewable upon mutual consent. SALARY: approx. EUR 1,300 net per month. Taxes will be taken care of by the school. HOURS: 21-23 classroom hours per week. Lesson preparation time is already included in the salary as are any meetings that need to be attended. The monthly salary is fixed and paid regardless of the number of hours teachers may end up working. PAID BREAKS: 2 weeks at Christmas, 1 week at Easter, and national holidays (approx. 5 days).

Requirements

(1) Immediate availability.

(2) EU passport holders. Non-EU citizens ALREADY in possession of valid working papers for Italy will also be considered. We WILL NOT process applicants who do not meet this requirement.

(3) Native English speakers. Proficient non-native speakers at CEFR C1-C2 will also be considered. Please note that for the latter, proof of language ability (e.g. IELTS, Cambridge C1/C2, etc.) is desirable.

(4) Cambridge CELTA. Other qualifications might be considered equivalent if they contained a supervised teaching practice component; A formal teaching qualification might be waived should the applicant already have extensive classroom experience that can be supported by references.

(5) Education to degree level preferred.

(6) Willingness to teach and experience in teaching Young Learners essential. Experience in activities-based lessons – e.g. arts & crafts, drama / theatre, songs, and games – desirable.

(7) Expertise in teaching Cambridge exams (A2, B1, B2, C1) desirable.
