Zeugma is a stylistic device in which a word, usually a verb is followed by two words which usually would not be used together.

It is sometimes used for comical effect.

    For example:

She filed the papers and her nails.
They opened their door and their hearts to the new puppy.
He left Mary in the library and in a hurry.
