I recently completed a 4 week TEFL course (100 hours 6 observed lessons) and wondered afterwards (!) is there an accreditization body based in South Africa (where I did the course) or elsewhere that will say to me the course you did is approved etc. and your certificate is quite OK.
I was not unhappy with the course; the material and support was of a high standard yet the certificate had no reference to an authorised authority.

    Hi,

Your right, there is no one accreditation for the TEFL. This does not mean however, that every course is just running blind. If you take a bit of time to research the source of the accreditation, you can usually judge for yourself who they are. For example, you should be able to verify that they are an existing organization with a history rather than a fictitious name. At Chiang Mai University, our ONLINE and on campus TEFL courses require a full sitting of the Board of Academic Directors before they are accredited.

    Good Luck to you!

Yes, unfortunately there is no Independent Board of Accreditation for TESL/TEFL Certificates and Diplomas. This means that each institute, school, or organization recognizes their own Certificate and accreditation comes from good practice, professional standards and reputation.
