Please can someone advise which International House it would be best to take the 4 week intensive CELTA course at?

The three I am currently looking at are London, Newcastle and Belfast (all expected to be offering the course face to face by September, if not already).

If anyone can advise on the merits of the individual teaching centres that would be much appreciated.

In terms of content, it will be very similar at all three locations, because the CELTA syllabus is the same regardless of where you take it.

So where it differs will be with the trainers – their approach may differ slightly, and they may give slightly more or less emphasis to different aspects of the syllabus. In short, each trainer brings his or her own personality to the course.

I don’t know the trainers in any of these schools so I can’t compare the locations, but hopefully this helps a bit.

All other things being equal, it may just come down to which city you’d prefer to be in for 4 weeks!

    Thanks for your reply Keith.

From what I’ve heard there won’t be much time for sightseeing during the CELTA course so if I can’t separate the training centres by their teacher trainers, I’m wondering if language schools or clients might view a prospective teacher more favourably if they have trained in London or whether, more probably, this isn’t much of a factor?

(IH London currently has a promo on regarding accommodation which means it’s not nearly as expensive to stay there, hence why I am considering training there!)

This won’t be much of a factor. Potential employers will see “CELTA” and that will be the important thing.

    Hope that helps!

So are the CELTA courses more highly regarded than some of the TEFL certificate courses that appear to be identical to the CELTA, involve the same training hours, teaching practice, etc?

There is one in Spain that is offering a TEFL as part of a broader diploma and includes language classes and work permit, although im not sure how to compare this to the CELTA etc as it is about double the price, and dont know if employers will view their qualification as being essentially equivalent to the CELTA.
