    Hi everyone.

I’ve just got my CELTA in May and I’m hoping to find a teaching contract in Barcelona or Madrid in the coming academic year.

From the previous posts on the forums, it looks like my best bet for finding a job is to book a flight to get out to the cities in Sept as many of the jobs aren’t advertised online and schools prefer you to be available for face-to-face interviews :P

Could someone let me know exactly when in September I should be looking to be in Barca/ Madrid? The shorter time living out of a suitcase in a hostel without a job the better for obvious reasons! I was thinking maybe the second week in Sept?

Any advice on this and how I might be able to look for a job there would be greatly appreciated :D

In Bilbao I managed to get a job before I even arrived. There was a posting in July and I applied and got it before August I remember. So, keep your eye out around now as a posting might come around.

Most places are away during August (as you probably already know). When I went to Valencia, I had the interview on the 12th and got the job on the 25th. Most got back to me asking for an interview around the 9th.

I would guess that Madrid and Barcelona are similar.

This’ll be fine for a lot of schools. But a lot will be even earlier, some later. I worked in Barcelona for a few years and my job started, I think, in the third week of September, and I had an interview about 2 weeks before.

Send your CV to as many schools as you can shortly before you go. Then follow up when you get there with a lot of footwork – visit the schools with your CV, try and chat to the person in charge of recruitment each time.
