    Hi there.

I was thinking of going to Ukraine to teach English (it doesn’t matter where in Ukraine), and I was wondering if anybody who has lived and worked there could give me any advice and the best way to go round applying for jobs, finding accomodation, etc.

I have a degree, a TEFL qualification, a PGCE and experience of teaching ESOL.

    Thank you for any help.

Was just wondering if you found anything out? I myself would like to teach in Ukraine as I know a few people there (Kiev and Do’netsk)

    Hi Keith

    Thank you for the reply

No, I haven’t found anything out yet mate.

I’ve just come back from Kiev after having a fantastic holiday there, but working and living there and going there for a holiday are two entirely different things aren’t they?

    Dear DMF,
I did 3 years in Kyiv, had a great time. The most reputable school in Ukraine is London School of English, big organisation, British owned, with centres in Kyiv, Lviv and Donetsk. They recruit every september but might have work at other times depending on circumstances. They sort out accomodation for teachers so thats all done for you. Most good schools do this. There’s a good IH in Odessa, and the Council are quality but fairly hard to get into.
I wouldn’t recommend just rocking up and seeing if you can find something, send a load of emails out first and see whats going on.
There’s another outfit called Businesslink who generally take care of teachers, but might not have long term contracts.
    Hope this helps

Thank you EV2, your advice is much appreciated.

Do you know off-hand, what the school is looking for in their tutors?

Is it easy to live in Kiev on the salary that the school pays? I’m not a ‘rock n’ roller’ who is out drinking and partying every night, but obviously being able to pay my way and be able to save some is important.

    Thank you again.
