Hello All – I am new to TEFL and I really want to teach in Turkey. I have heard some horror stories however… Can anyone give me a personal insight into teaching in this country and how best to find a teaching position?

    Thank you!

I think you can find horror stories in all countries but the thing to remember is that people are more inclined to post online when they have a bad experience than when they have a good one. I would guess that for every teacher who has a difficult time in a country there are a hundred who have a reasonable time.

And of course it also depends on the personality of the teacher. There are two factors at work: one is the actual teaching itself and the other is the ability to live and work in another country. Some people just aren’t cut out for that.

So the bottom line I think is to take horror stories with a pinch of salt and go for it.

This might help: TEFL in Turkey.

You are absolutely right about the horror stories…I think I’m just getting nerves about going.
