    Hi

Does anyone have any experience of teaching in Chile, Santiago in particular? Advice on the city, availability and types of jobs, cost of living, visas, accommodation etc much appreciated. I have the CELTA but not a degree. Will this be an issue?

I’m currently teaching in Seville. If anyone wants any advice on living and working here, feel free to ask.

    Many thanks.

Hi, Monkfish. I do not have advice on teaching in Santiago as I have not been there [though I may go in a few months]. From what I hear, they want you to have a degree but some schools will accept CELTA instead if you have sufficient experience.

I do have a question for you about working in Seville: is it possible for a US citizen, even an experienced, CELTA-certified one, to find legal work there? And if so, can you recommend places to apply?

I have been in Chile for a year now. I started working with The Homework Club and Imperial English in November of 2010 and I´ve really enjoyed it. The people are great and I love my classes. They pay well, and the teachers are really fun. We have a good little social committee as well :)
We also have a Spanish branch called Spanish Now (http://www.spanishnow.cl) and the lessons are offered to the teachers for really cheap, which is a nice benefit.

There is a pretty big expat community here and there are several groups that meet for socials with both Chileans and foreigners. There is always something going on.
I primarily work with children but I also have classes with adults too. I like the variety.
How long will you be in Chile?

Although it´s winter now, Chile has awesome weather! It´s beautiful like 9 months of the year!

The website for the Homework Club used to be http://www.thehomeworkclub.cl. This now redirects to http://www.language.cl – I’m guessing maybe they changed their name…?

    Hope that helps.
