I’m a qualified nurse looking to teach english full time in France (I already live here), I have done an on-line TEFL course but would like to focus on medical english, any advice or names of books courses etc would be appreciated.

    Hi Frederique

In your other post in "New to TEFL" you mentioned that you are teaching freelance, and were asking about materials to use – are you still thinking of focusing on medical English, or other areas as well?

If you have a look at Amazon and do a search for "Medical English", you’ll see that there are quite a few books available in the field, for example "Professional English in Use: Medicine".

Think too about using your own and your students’ experience as a resource. If, for example, you are teaching modals of oligation and advice (must, have to, should…), think about when you have given advice to patients or told them what they have to do during a course of treatment, and also about the contexts in which your students would do the same, and introduce the language in these contexts – if you’d like more detailed advice on this, just let me know.

    Hope this helps.
