Hi all
I am looking to teach in Poland later this year and would be very grateful if anyone has any experiences (good and bad!) that they can share that might be useful. I would also be much obliged for info on any schools you can recommend. So far I’ve heard good things about International House but that’s about it.
Thanks

There’s a general article on TEFL in Poland here.
You need to have a passport from an EU country to work there (ie it’s almost impossible to get a work permit if you’re American, etc). One other issue is that the academic year starts around October so you’ll be lucky to find work before then; probably only if you’re actually there and available and find a school where the English teacher has left suddenly for some reason and left them in the lurch.

Some more general advice about Poland here.
International House has a very good reputation. I also heard good things a couple of years ago from a couple of teachers who worked at Greenwich School of English in Warsaw.

Can anyone tell me what is a reasonable hourly pay rate for a TEFL certified teacher in Poland? I’ve read a lot of different sources, but it’s hard to find any solid information on this particular topic.

If you are a native speaker, then the going rate is between 35 and 40 zloty an hour, before tax.
