    Hi everyone,

I have done lots of research on this already but have found loads of mixed opinions, so would appreciate any advice from people who are living/teaching in Spain or Portugal.

I am 28, English, have done a lot of travelling and speak a bit of Spanish, and would now like to settle down in either Spain or Portugal. I am educated to A-level standard and was accepted to two universities in the UK to study English Literature when I was 20 but turned the places down to go travelling and have been travelling ever since!

I am now trying to decide whether to spend the £1000 on a four week intenstive CELTA (or Trinity TESOL) course either here in the UK or in Spain (Cadiz area). It seems that the ELT market in Spain (and Portugal to a lesser extent?) is very competitive, so what might my chances be of getting a job with only a CELTA and no degree or experience? Also, why does having a degree really matter if you have a good ELT certificate such as CELTA?

    Many thanks for any advice.
