    Hello everyone,

I hope you can help me in this forum. I am a Danish native, have a Master’s Degree in English/Danish translation, have taught English, lived and travelled abroad as well. My level of English is excellent, however, being a non native speaker of English and not holding the TEFL certificate may stop my plans of teaching in Italy!! Does anyone know whether I have a realistic chance, with or without the TEFL certificate?

Hope to hear from you! Thank you :)

    Best regards,
    Vibeke Preisz

It depends where. If you are giving private lessons that’s one thing, but a school will want to see qualifications. Depending on your level of English could you classify yourself as ‘bilingual’? That might help!

    Hi VPreisz,

I find myself in a very similar position to yours – I’m a Brazilian ESL teacher, uncertified but with reasonable teaching experience, whose just been contacted by an Italian school about a job opening in Milan.

I’m obviously looking it up to see if this is common practice or not and if this particular school (Connor Language Services) is reputable, but I haven’t been able to find anything about it.

I was wondering if you ever got around to that teaching job you were after and how it all wind up. I know this isn’t of much help at all, as I’m just asking another question on top of yours but… anyways, looking forward to hearing from you!

    Thanks a lot in advance.

    Dear Mariel,

Thank you for your reply :). I haven’t gotten that far yet – other than to plan that I’m going to Florence to try my luck in August :). Hope the best for you.

    Best regards,
