I’m a newbie in the world of ESL and in fact I’m just browsing for which certificate course to take.

Saw a lot of people talking about the Special Thai Project and look into TEFL International’s website.

looks good, 500 USD i think reservation fee and you get certified in an onsite course with guaranteed jobs afterwards.
saw a lot of people happy with it too!

though I’m wondering why is it there’s another website with the exact same program in Thailand, even the name of the program is the same though not the dates.

The one I’m talking about is ATI’s course.
    So which is which?

    That’s a bit troublesome…

though I find it hard to believe that all of that is real. this is the internet and anyone can pretty much say that brown m&ms can cure cancer.
I’m not saying that all that was utter crap, all business run into snags be it their fault or not, and are often blown up to ridiculous proportions by some people

    normal guy+internet+anonymity=total arse hole.

I’ve talked with someone who took part in this particular course with TEFL INTL and she says that it’s all good.
and when she took the course and sifted through all this, there was no program offered by ATI with the same name.

I’ll be doing more research, it’s still a long ways till the program starts, but if some other group is copying this, it must be good. There’s no point in imitating a terrible program from a terrible company…

I am also looking into the ATI Special Thai program, and have been a hard time finding alumni with any positive or negative feedback.

    Has anyone taken this?

    Ceelin – you’re absolutely right.

Testimonials, both good and bad, from former trainees/employees can be very useful, but should always be taken with a pinch of salt. As you say, anonymity on the internet allows anyone to rant about anything that they’re not completely happy with.

I’ve worked for many schools, and even the most successful ones with golden reputations have had dissatisfied clients and teachers who have not been happy about something – I think you’d be hard pressd to find a business that pleases all the people all the time.

So, if you find ten bad reports about a school or training centre then I’d think twice about going any further with them. If you find just one, it could be representative of the situation as a whole, but always remember that it could also be just one former trainee/employee out of a thousand, who for one reason or another didn’t see eye to eye with the place and needs to get it off their chest.

    Phil
