    What do we mean by scan reading and how do we apply in a skills lesson
    topic: the weather (entry 2 class) ..what task can I design to develop this skill(scan reading)

    Scanning is Reading for Specifics. (Compare to Skimming which is reading for gist.)

    So get your students to skim the text to get a rough idea what it’s about. Then scan the text (cast their eyes over it quickly) to find very specific information and read about it.

    So scanning exercises could mean getting students to find details like times and dates or names within a text.

    Yep, so if the topic is the weather, I imagine the text might be a weather forecast. They might skim the text to get a general idea that they’re looking at a weather forecast, and then scan the text to find, for example, the weather in London on February 17th in the morning.
