Hi, i need some advice. I left my former school in january with a release letter but my new employer need a ref letter. My former boss is refusing to give me this as i go to a school in the same city. I have repeatedly asked for this letter but he sent me an email saying if i stay in this city he will not give me this letter and my new boss says he can not employ me without it. What can i do?

I hear your frustration. Former employers can have an axe to grind (if you pardon the idiom), yet you may have worked well for them. Could you approach a colleague at your old school for a reference?

Where are you? It is illegal to refuse a reference letter without a valid reason in some countries.
He is probably not going to give you a glowing reference anyway.
