    Hello everyone,
I am considering teaching in Asia: My major interests are South Korea, China, Taiwan, and Japan.
This is not a school question. I was just wondering since most teachers of English abroad are young, are there any 30 somethings who are teaching in Asia?
I am a mid 30’s teacher and wondering if going abroad would be good for someone my age.
I am in excellent shape, professional dancer, look younger than I am, still do things that 20 somethings do in terms of being active and going out but 36 none the less.
Are there many 30 something teachers abroad? Do women from these countries look at us as old fish. Is it easy to make friends with natives my age?
Are young people open to hanging out with old trouts?
Anyone know between the countries I mentioned what would be best for me or are these just questions no one can really answer?
    Thanks for taking the time!

    Hi MB

I taught in Jakarta when I was in my mid-20s and, although most of the teachers were probaby under 30, there were still a large number of teachers in their 30s, 40s, 50s and 60s, all in bars and clubs as much as the rest of us. As far as I remember it didn’t make any difference to me or my 20-something friends how old anyone was – we hung out with "old trouts" just as willingly as with anyone else.

    Hope that helps!

    Dan

Thanks Dan, sounds good. Just didn’t want to be out of place or thirsting for attention. Going abroad to Asia, I will have no friends nor speak the language. In Latin America it was fine because those cultures are pretty open to anyone. A group could consist of people from all ages. I know little to nothing of Asia and how it operates. Also would like to mingle with those of my age or older as well.
    Thanks again!
