    Hi

I can never seem to be able to clearly explain the different present perfect continuous and just plain old present perfect. I know the difference I just dont seem to explain it very well.

How do guys get the point across?

After having a disastrous lesson today dealing with this, I would also love an answer to this question!

The difference lies in the focus of the sentence. In the present perfect simple the focus is on the RESULT, whereas in the present perfect continuous the focus is on the ACTION.

I have written three letters = completed action with focus on result
I have been writing letters for two hours = either unfinished or recently completed action with focus on course/duration of action (not the result)
