I need some advice. I started the CELTA course few weeks ago but quit because it was too much for me! My grades were getting nowhere no matter how much I tried. Obviously, it was too much for me to cope with in a short period of time! I prepared myself quite well but didn’t expect the course to be beyond intensive like sleeping only 4-5 hours a day, loss of appetite etc!
However, I did enjoy the experience and the teaching practice though I was struggling . I would love to do a course again but online so I can work on the side at the same time. Can anyone recommend a TEFL course which will help me as I have no previous experience in teaching except 3 weeks of CELTA.

Confirm: You tried the CELTA 4-week intensive course….yes?
So – Ask yourself…are you wanting a softer course such as a 1 day taster or perhaps a 2 day weekend course?
Perhaps you are talking online? Both CELTA and TESOL are available as online study then into the classroom for the finals.
Where are you located? Where can you attend to study?
Have a scout around the web and see if you can sort out the obvious rubbish and pretend course info from the genuine.
I take it you lost the CELTA course fee…around £950 sterling?
Did not the institution offer you course guidence?
If you are going to value your career as a teacher it will have to be with a reputable certification and that’s CELTA or TESOL but be aware……
There is but one Cambridge CELTA….there are a few TESOL’s about.
Either post up your reply or PM if you’re shy.

Thank you for your kind reply. I asked the institution,if i can re-apply for the course and the answer is yes but in a few months. In the time being the TEFL online courses will help me to stay in touch with practical language awareness but they always advise students to attend the course in class for practice.
I was thinking of 120-hr TEFL course with tutor & videos (+ free course) with ittt… Is it worth it?
Havn’t heard or seen anything of this one but the web-site is nice and no-nonsense about it. I cannot really say much about Oakland, California though.
I get the feeling you will have to totally immerse yourself in English language teaching and yes, I would attend a short course but with the institution where you attempted CELTA for this will show your dedication to the task plus you will get to know the place quite well.
You may feel at odds with me but my impression about CELTA/TESOL is do it their way, just like a driving test….drive by the book, give the examiner exactly what he wants when he wants it, speak when you are spoken to.
What parts of C and T you apply (as the ink dry’s on the cert) to your teaching practice in your classroom is your own choice.
I expect some people will be at war with me for my comment, but then I hope others will respond and offer advice you may choose to act upon.
Keep on keeping on, for CELTA is hell, but there is nothing so rewarding as a sea of happy faces as your students grasp and utilise your dedicated tuition.
