Home TEFL forum New to TEFL Job prospects for older teachers
I’m thinking of doing a CELTA course and teaching in the Middle East or Far East, areas I know quite well. However I am in my 50’s and I’m concerned that job prospects might not be so good for older teachers, especially ones embarking on their first foriegn teaching job. Any advice?

Hi:
I would like some help please. I am thinking about teaching in Indonesia as a late career change, but I am wondering about the criteria required. Most of the websites look for the younger generation and require university degrees, and since I don’t have this type of creditation, I would like to know what the chances are ?.. I am halfway through the 120 hr course (weekend course completed) and would like to teach the younger learners ( Specialist certificate TEFL for younger learners still to be taken ).. My age is 54. . Would I still be accepted with just the TEFL certification ? Regards: Alan
Hi Alan and welcome to the forum.
As far as I know you still don’t need a degree to work in Indonesia, so your TEFL certificate should be fine.
As far as age goes, have a look at some of the posts highlighted earlier in this thread.
Hope that helps.
Dan
Thank you Dan for your reply. I will take a look at some earlier threads.
