I am planning to start a research project about how to teach grammar effectively. I would appreciate all your help and suggestions about approaches and ways to teach grammar in a communicative classroom.

Hi – not sure if your research project is still in the pipeline – if so, a good starting point for different approaches to teaching grammar would be something like Scott Thornbury’s How to Teach Grammar – a very sound analysis of the pros and cons of different approaches.

Just to say the book that dan recommended is very good for what you are looking for. Teaching grammar is complex and to discusses all the approaches here would take too long. But using methods that help students relate to the grammar being taught, in a fun and interesting way, is a good place to start. Putting it into context and using examples through role plays, dialogues and speaking practice, while making sure that the rules are understood, is what you should be aiming for. Making that happen is what we English teachers have to work hard at.
