    Hi Graeme

That depends on a few things:

    – Which coursebook are you using?
    – How many hours of classes do you have a week?
    – Has the school where you work specified how long they have to get through the book?

The book is English adventure(Levels 1-4) (Pearson) and we’ll be doing two hours per week. As of yet, no markers have been placed as to how much of the book should be completed by a certain time.
The way I see it, the course book is just another resource and finishing it or not isn’t important. Kids get a lot of books at school and I think they expect something different when they come to an English academy.
    Thanks for any advice.

There’s two issues here. The first is how much your class can handle. Personally I like to take things slowly so I’m as happy doing a single exercise in a lesson as I am doing a couple of pages as long as we go at the right speed and the class is fully aware of what we’re doing. I don’t try to measure progress by how many pages we do and if we stray off onto an interesting and useful discussion then that’s fine by me.

But then you get strange DoSs and bosses who insist that you need to complete 1 unit per week or something like this. In other words they regard the course book as a bible and no deviation is allowed.

What does your boss say? Can you get away with doing things at a natural speed or do you have to stick to some arbitrary speed?

    Thanks for all the advice,
Guess I’ll sit down and have a chat with the boss, iron things out.

    Thanks again.
