I am now in the military with a wife and daughter and am getting bored in Germany. I want to travel to the Pacific, I have been told teaching English is the best choice. I have 72 college credits and still working on it. What would the best route be for getting started in English teaching? I would like to live in New Zealand, or anywhere in the Pacific or Asian countries. Whats the sure bet for a family man, or is this not the best choice if you have a family?

cooljoey, I need more info before I can offer suggestions. First, is English your mother tongue? How many more credits do you need for your degree? How old is your family?

Most Asian countries require a degree. Which one doesn’t matter. I have a friend teaching with a BSc in Physics. China is the only country I know where you can officially work without a degree – in some places.

Even in China, those who lack a degree have much less options than degree holders. China pay scales are low but so are living costs. You can support a family on less than $500 a month after accommodation which is often supplied by Chinese employers.
