Hello, I’m teaching classes of 50 university students advanced English in China. Most of the class will be student talking time, so I’m there to guide the conversations. I’m curious as to what others do when teaching adults, or even larger classes of 50 teenagers (as that is my class size).

Could you share the teacher talk you use?
How do you make your classes engaging for adults?
How do you manage distracted students? (phone usage, lack of confidence in speaking)

Topics usually include life abroad in English speaking countries, health, debates and learning methods.

Thanks for sharing your experiences, much appreciated

    Engage them with popular topics

I believe that teaching adults is easier than children.
Adults take part in discussions more easily, they compromise with each other while discussing and they have much more knowledge and experience to use in their speaking, so I believe that it would be easier to engage them in discussions which involves their experience.
