I have a similar assignment but it’s not just about the legend of Romulus and Remus, it’s a text about children being brought up by animals, here’s what I was given:

“There have always been stories about animals that bring up children. One of the most famous is the story of Romulus and Remus; the twin boys who were raised by a wolf. When the brothers grew up they founded the city of Rome. While this is a legend, there are many modern stories about children being raised by wolves, which are believed by many people. In an Indian jungle in 1867, a boy was found by some hunters. They said he was living with wolves – he was about six years old. He was named Dina and went to live with humans, but he never learned to speak. The wolf-girls Kamala and Amala were also Indian. Their story was reported by a priest who said the girls were discovered in 1920. Although this story is widely believed, recent examinations of the account have cast doubt on it. It seems more likely that the girls were autistic and had been rejected by their family.

There are also stories about human children who were cared for by other types of animal. In 1724, a boy of about 12 was seen in the forest near Hanover. He was known as Wild Peter. It is unclear what kind of animal Peter lived with, but he didn’t eat meat; he ate tree bark, like deer. This is similar to the story of the Syrian Gazelle Boy, who was spotted in the desert in 1946. The boy was reported to be living with a herd of gazelles. He ran very fast on all fours and ate the same food as the gazelles. However, reports about this child are inconsistent and there is no record of what happened to him.

Marina Chapman is from Colombia and is now about 65. She claims that when she was five she was kidnapped and ended up living in the jungle with monkeys. After a few years she was rescued by hunters. As there are no official records, her story can’t be disproved, but her original family has never been found.
More recent stories are about children who were neglected by their parents and were looked after by animals. There are videos on the Internet of Oxana, a Ukrainian girl, who moves and behaves very much like a dog. She was found in 1991 living with the dogs in her parents’ backyard. Oxana’s case is well documented and experts agree that for about five years she really lived with dogs.
Many other cases, however, may have little basis in reality.”

I’m guessing yours is the same?

No, I just passed the tests a week ago and since then I’ve been planning, writing and then re-writing the listening lesson plan. Maybe it’s because I’m new to all this or just totally thick but it’s pretty hard trying to come up with them!

I can’t send it in until I finish the follow-up grammar lesson plan, but (hopefully!) I’ll get them finished by today or tomorrow and if I pass I’ll let you know.

Would you mind sending me your email address? I don’t think we are allowed to publish it here and I do not want to step on anyone’s toes. You can then have a better idea of what is going on and how to assist everybody.

Can anyone tell me what the second assignment is? I’m running out of time (been struggling to juggle this with a full time job) and need to ensure I pass the first assignment and submit the second by 18th Nov!!

    Hi guys/girls

I am posting this as everybody is contacting me via my e-mail now. I am not going to give my hard work away but are willing to share some points that you can look at here.

You all are stressed out! I was tooo… it is really not so bad. I passed with distinction!!! Jayyyyyyy!!!

Just read your assignment instructions carefully AGAIN and AGAIN and follow what they are telling you. Go back to the Modules and you will get your answers there.

I will give you some tips for the grammar lesson because everybody is struggling and stressed out about it. The instruction was a bit confusing and I had quite a few people reading it and also had no idea what was meant. So, in the end, I just did what I thought was the right thing to do. Follow my heart and instinct. hahahaha….

Seeing that it is a follow-up lesson revise the topic and some vocabulary.
Do comparisons between some of the animals eg wolf and dog. Remember you do not have to use these. It is just an example.

Describe what ‘passive’ means and get your students involved. Maybe do like a little discussion between teacher and student. Remember the lesson aim is to introduce students to passive forms in past simple and present perfect forms. Do some research on the internet, you will find an answer there as to how to teach it. Believe me!

Make sure you cover everything in your lesson. Go to your ‘Checklist’ and ‘How this assignment will be graded’. Make sure you have done everything that they have pointed out you must have. If you have all those requirements in your lesson, you can’t go wrong. I promise you!

Before you know it! It’s all over and done with!

    Now there you have it!

All the best and good luck!
    Yvonne

    Hi all,

I hope I’ve joined the discussion in time.

In order to plan a great lesson, we need to be clear on what the aims and objectives are. The sample text is an interesting one, but why was this particular text chosen? Is it because it serves as a useful context for grammar instruction, such as the passive voice? Is it supposed to lead into a speaking or writing task? Are there any particular listening skills that need to be practiced?

Once we know the purpose of using the text we can go to town developing a really valuable lesson from it.

Hey guys. Seems we all have the same problem grasping this! I’m the same.
I’m confused as to what context the listening lesson plan is to be taught? May sound silly but is it in the form of the whole text which is in my eyes children being brought up by animals?
If so, this then leads to my next question of how can I teach the passive grammar forms of this when the statements and words are already ‘brought up’ ‘were cared for’ ‘looked after’ etc as they are already in the past?
    Hope I’m making sense
    Really confusing me
I hope to hear from you all soon
    Thank you!

    Hey,

I have just started the assignment. Am I being really stupid or is it about differentiating between the past simple and the imperfect tense? There seems to be a lot of the imperfect tense in the text.

Any help would be amazing! Rather stuck!

    Hey,folks.

Im in the same boat here. Just starting my assignment 1 and seem to be having the same problems as many of yourselves, particularly Lauren who has voiced all the same issues as ive been having. I could be well off the mark here but i think the point of the listening text is about how people are raised. I think certain words and phrases like “brought up” will need to be pre-taught along with words like “legend” and “gazelle”. When i read the text i also get the impression it is a story about what is true and what is false. I can’t help but notice that the text points out some reports are hearsay and myth while others are more valid. Considering so many of the class intend to study in a university abroad i cant help but think focusing in on the concept of what is a “legend” and what is “fact” is an important thing to consider here. Maybe get them to talk about any myths or legends they know about (i notice many are fond of the supernatural and movies from the student survey)
Like i said im as confused as everyone here and just trying to make sense of this. Any help or tips on how to get started or what the aim of listening lesson might be please let know!

    Good Morning/Afternoon

If anyone can share their successfully completed assignments with me to use as a guideline I would be over the moon. My assignment is also Listening and Grammar regarding Romulus and Remus.

I’m currently in Asia in desperate need to finish this course as I’m currently employed by a shady buxiban who not only aren’t going to sponsor my VISA (therefore making me work illegally) but are also paying me some abysmal wages that no school would ever dare try to offer a teacher with one of these bad boys.

Please assist! I’m in a tight spot. I’m also willing to share mine once it’s completed with others.

I’ve managed the listening Lesson now, I think ive done ok, but now im on the grammar lesson and am struggling to find examples in the text of passive form in present perfect and past simple.

Are these examples given in ‘notes for grammar lesson’ in passive voice?

    – the verb ‘to be’ is in past simple :
A boy was found by some hunters
The girls were discovered in 1920.

And in these examples the verb ‘to be’ is in past perfect and present perfect:
The girls had been rejected by their family
Her original family has never been found.

If they are I was thinking for the presentation switching these to active sentences and getting students to convert? My intro is revision on passive simple present by doing the same thing ( active -> Passive), but have yet to find an example of this in the text so was maybe just going to make a simple one up of my own.

Am I on the right track at all or have i crashed and rolled down a hill? haha

    Many Thanks

Are these examples given in ‘notes for grammar lesson’ in passive voice?

    – the verb ‘to be’ is in past simple :
A boy was found by some hunters
The girls were discovered in 1920.

And in these examples the verb ‘to be’ is in past perfect and present perfect:
The girls had been rejected by their family
Her original family has never been found.

Yes, all these examples are in passive voice.

    Hi guys,

Yet again I’m another person feeling hopeless not being able to understand this assignment.

Other than pre-teach the vocabulary, I have no idea what the actual aim of the listening lesson is, what are we actually supposed to be focusing on in particular and what could my main activity be?

I have sent countless emails to the TEFL admin and I only ever get a generic email telling me to look closer at the modules.

Again, like everyone else, I’d super appreciate any help or advice or an example anyone can send me.

    pleaseeeeeeeee please help.

    Hey guys,

    HI All

I too am stuck on this. I do not have a clue where to start on the assignment. I cannot even figure out what the target language is suppose to be for the lesson; is it the animals or is it about being ‘raised or brought up’ – I think that the latter is probably too difficult for the level that we are ‘teaching’.

This is so much harder than I thought that it would be due to how unclear the instructions are. I dont really have enough time to put in that amount of effort into just trying to figure out what they want us to do! I have already had to pay for a 3 month extension as I ran out of time due to other commitments; I can only really do half a day every couple of weeks or month!

    Any help would be grateful

    Thanks

    Emma

Hello, I’m in the same boat as most of you, I have just completed my 10 TEFL modules and am now on the first assignment, struggling to understand what I’m supposed to do and how to put the lessons together. It would be very helpful to see an example to understand the structure. However, any advice would be greatly appreciated, as I’m under much pressure, having only a short time left for completing the course and moving abroad very soon. I understand Dan is very kindly helping some of you, so I would be very grateful for any suggestions/tips/examples. Many thanks!

    Hello everyone,

First of all, I’m astonished so many people are having trouble with this assigment, just like me. The assignment is very overwhelming, with so many documents to read and things to consider just to get started.

I too would love for someone to share their completed assignment with me to use as a guideluine. Do not worry, I don’t plagerize. My assignment is also Listening and Grammar regarding Romulus and Remus, however, I would gladly see a completed assignment with a different topic as well.

Thank you so much for your help in advance.

    Kind regards,
    Wouter

Hi, I am also doing this Romulus and Remus listening and then grammar lesson plans. I have almost finished my listening lesson, although I think i have written it ok Im still unsure if my exercises are suitable. Anyway today whilst going through the check list I found a piece that says:

    Requirements – 40%
The actual words for instruction, grammar and vocabualry explanations and concept questions have been included- can be added on separate paper..

Can someone clarify what this means? Am I required to write a script like step by step of what I will actually say in each part of thelesson?? Someone who has already completed assignment 1 can you comment on this.. . also where it says submit 2 lesson plans , plus, as appropriate board plans or PowerPoint slides.. what are board plans?

Thanks. Once Im finished I am willing to send out sample plans to anyone who needs to see an example to start them off

    Thanks

Yes!! I have completed my listening lesson and now tackling the grammar which i have no clue where to start. My main issue is knowing what we are actually supposed to be submitting, regarding instructions etc. I first understood it was just the lesson plan and materials but now i am wondering if I am meant to be adding extra information on a separate sheet almost lie a script of whats happening in the class and exactly what is being said. its very difficult when there isn’t even a model sample to look at first and then create our own. Can you clarify anything for me?

    Hey guys,

I know how frustrated you guys are as I was in the same boat. So I’m happy to help. Let’s start with assignment 1. You need to start with the listening assignment. From the beginning, how to introduce the topic, elicit information about what the students think the story is about. Then introduce vocab. Exactly how to teach the vocab. You can write on the lesson plan or like I did add another attachment. I used pictures to explain different animals for example. Then you have first listening. You must state your aim for each section. So first listening could be for gist. Get a general understanding. Then give a short exercise. This is to see if they understood the text. Maybe ask if it was as they predicted etc. Second listening will be the same. Rem to state the aim of the second reading. Then you need to add freer and controlled exercises at the end. Simple fill in the blanks or true and false activities. They can even speak about stories they heard. Don’t forget your concept questions. At each stage when the students are doing activities you must state that the teacher is monitoring. And give clear instructions. This is just an example so you guys can use it as a guideline. Adapt it to make it your own

And use marinas lesson plan as an example as well. It helps a lot to set out your assignment. For the grammar lesson. You need to use examples from the listening text. Remember the students know some rules. So start with recapping those rules. Ask the students to give an example from the text and then ask them to change it to past tense or passive form. They know this already. Recap the form of each tense. Say the aim of doing this. Then move onto the presentation. Remember this is where you are teaching the passive form (which they know) of past simple and present perfect. You basically putting bits and pieces of what they know altogether. Explain past simple, explain present perfect, give the meaning and form from the notes and then ask them to make it passive. Ask concept questions to see if they understood. Include the actual questions that you will ask. For e.g.. an action which was done in the past..is it present perfect? They will say yes or no. Do some drilling of the meaning and form. Thereafter do a controlled activity and a freer activity. There is tons of ideas on the net for these activities. E.g.. change the sentence to passive past simple. I hope this helps. Good luck

    Hi dolly.

I added a script of how it could possibly be taught. To elicit information from the students like how it is done in the course notes and the lecturer said he liked it

Hi I was in the same situation as you all and I sought help here and it was very helpful. I have just received my mark for assignment 1 and I passed with a distinction. I am happy to help anyone who has any doubts on their assignment as it was so valuable to me when I was struggling where to start at the beginning. This is all new to me I am not a teacher and have learned everything I know from the course basically so I can only help as much as what the assignment asks, but if I can help I will.

I actually passed with merit after my first submission failed.
There is a 50 min lesson in our work stuff so I looked and used alot of those methods and once you start it’s plain sailing really. Use the website for grammar exercises they are usually generators so it’s easy to do.
But do not over complicate things like I did in my first attempt do about 3 exercises for each lesson and do not make it easy.
Just go through the course notes you will see it
    Good luck

I am not looking for someone to give me the answers but if someone could show me an example of a lesson plan for this assignment that would be a huge help. Hello Everyone,

I would just like to point out that it clearly says on our platform:

    i. The reputation of this qualification is dependent on our students’ academic integrity. The TEFL Academy does not tolerate plagiarism, nor the use of third parties, electronically or otherwise, to produce your assignments.

Dear Liam and Everyone else on this thread,

It clearly states in the introduction to the assignment that anyone found to be plagiarising will be taken off the course without a refund.

I have checked and you have never sent a ticket asking for help with your marker’s feedback. That is exactly what the ticket platform is there for. We offer additional support for anyone who is having problems. PLEASE USE THE PLATFORM.

Please note that TEFL Academy has now joined this thread, so will be notified every time someone contributes to it.

It is, of course, absolutely fine to discuss the assignments, but not to share them or work on them together. We will be checking assignments for evidence of copying or close similarity.

    Course Development Manager.
