    Hey guys

Is it grammatically correct to say I have many animals? For some reason it sounds a bit strange to me. I have lots of animals sounds more natural.

Both are correct. "I have lots of animals" is probably more commonly used.

I just checked on Google n-grams and found that MANY ANIMALS is far more commonly used than LOTS OF ANIMALS!

Didn’t expect it but that’s what the corpus search said!

I wouldn’t have expected that either! Keep in mind though that Google Ngrams searches digitised books, not instances of spoken English – and "lots" is not commonly used in formal written English.
