    Hello,

I am taking my first FCE class very soon and I need to brush up on my grammar knowledge!!
I am trying to figure out which tenses the following sentences are in:

1: ….and who knows, maybe transmissions will be received from other planets in the future (future simple??)

2: Millions of email messages are now sent and received every day. (present simple???)

3: Millions of text messages have also been sent since the first one in 1992 (present perfect??)

    Any help appreciated, thanks!!

Hi mexicochick and welcome to the forum.

You are absolutely right with all your tenses, except that they are also in the passive voice. The corresponding "active" sentences could be something like this:

1: ….and who knows, maybe we will receive transmissions from other planets in the future.
2: People send and receive millions of email messages every day.
3: People have also sent millions of text messages since the first one in 1992.

The reason why the passive is used in each of your sentences will be the important point to communicate to your students. For example, in 2 and 3, we can say that the subject (People) is clear from the context, and that the action of sending emails/text messages requires more emphasis.

    Hope that helps.

    Dan
