Does anyone here have experience of teaching in Portugal? Any information would be appreciated. I

I hope to arrive in Lisbon next week, and have the intention of working either there, or anywhere else interesting. Possibly Madieira or in the countryside.

I have a lot of experience teaching, but none in Portugal, so any advice is helpful.

You might find this link helpful – TEFL in Portugal.

Basically, most jobs are found actually there rather than advertised on the net. You should be prepared to look after yourself with little income for a few months until you build up enough working hours. It’s going to be slightly awkward as well this time of year since it’s half way through the academic year and although there’s often a demand for teachers after Christmas (when some English teachers will do a bunk) most jobs are found around October time.

Oh, and be prepared for split shifts and the likelihood of working in more than one school.

Thanks for the link. It’s good to know that most jobs are advertised locally, as there is very little on the web at the moment.
