    Hi

I’m just about to start e-mailing my CV off to schools in Europe. I know my question is a bit vague, but I’m wondering if anyone knows when schools start looking for teachers.
If they require a teacher in May would they start looking months or weeks in advance.

Also, as I am available and flexible this year, should I say I’m available throughout he year.

    Thanks for any help.

    Hi there,

Jobs in Europe tend not to be found from abroad. You really need to be on the ground at the right time handing out CVs.

The peak hiring time for schools in Europe is September (to coincide with the start of the academic year). There is usually a smaller hiring peak in January, to replace the teachers who jumped ship at Xmas. After that there is nothing much around until mid to late June when the summer camp jobs begin. Hiring for these starts as early as November.

To see what’s available now, have a look at http://www.tefl.com/jobs/search.html. Use the dropdowns to choose your preferred country. By all means apply by InstApply/email, but don’t be surprised if they want you to fly to the country (at your own expense) for a face-to-face interview.

I would begin to send out CVs in late August. There’s no harm in sending them out before summer when some schools are starting to think about hiring for the next term, but many leave it to the last moment and make it after summer ends. Many European countries almost close down for August.

By all means mention your flexibility! There’s the chance a school might have a vacancy right now for you!

    Good luck
