    Hi all,

Was wondering if anyone uses mind maps in class. I was thinking of starting to use them with my 1st grade class. Has anyone any experience teaching with mind maps? Any tips? Are they too young? Any good subjects to start them off?

I use http://www.examtime.com to build my own mind maps and flash cards (I’m learning German). But I’m going to give it a go in class with the kids!

    Any thoughts or feedback?

    Hi Simon1,

I don’t have any great advice for you, but I am interested in what your experience will be. I wonder if you would post later on about your experience? I would be very grateful if you did.

Also, are you going to build a map with them? Or just use one in a lesson?

Thanks in advance, and I wish you success,

    R

I use them mainly for vocabulary and in getting students to organize words into groups. We might start with a topic which is the central theme and get them to brainstorm things connected to that topic. Then you can help them out with headings for each of the groupings. After you’ve used the mind map you can build sentences with them. I haven’t used these with very young students but maybe as its visual it could help.
