We have talked about it’s possible existence for years but now the CFTU finally has the proof. 796 of us are listed in many different categories but how we can get off is still a mystery. I am sure my roomie is on the list for making so many complaints against *** MOD EDIT *** in Beijing. I suppose some people belong on such a list but then again when I look at the blacklist categories, I wonder what they mean by "Troublemaker"? Is this someone who insists on getting paid for overtime work, or someone who asks to see a license, or ????? You can read the details for yourself at http://www.ChinaForeignTeachers.org. China is getting worse for teachers – not better.

So what?!? They have a right to keep tabs on drunks and people who can’t show up on time for work. We keep track of the bad schools and agents and they keep track of the bad teachers. What is the problem?

I agree with Eddy. Schools should know who they are hiring or they may be putting kids at risk. *** MOD edit *** So long as teachers don’t get blacklisted fort the wrong reason, I see no reason for alarm.

I absolutely agree – if an organisation like the CFTU has the right to keep a blacklist of schools in order to protect teachers, then why shouldn’t the schools have the right to keep a blacklist of teachers in order to protect themselves?

A lot is said in forums about teachers getting conned or hassled or "having a hard time". Fair enough. But spare a thought for the schools who invest time and money in recruitment, only to end up hiring what turn out to be jokers who either can’t teach or up and leave as soon as a better offer comes along.

I actually thing this teacher blacklist is a good thing. Why? Because almost half of the teachers I have worked with were irresponsible drunkards and losers who came to china to catch some yellow tail or can’t get a job back home. This 50% group have no teaching experience and think that teaching means "entertaining the students". They call in sick at least twice a month, are habitually late, and if I was a principal I’d fire their ass a long time ago.

If these phony bad apple teachers can be locked out of teaching jobs, those of us real teachers could get much better salaries and more respect from the staff and parents. As*hole teachers just give us all a bad name and need to be blacklisted.
