Could anyone could give me some examples of titles/topics for CELTA written assignments? I’m starting the course in a fortnight and would like to get a better idea of what I’m letting myself in for!

Hmmm….you should produce 4 written assignments during the duration of a four-week course. Each deadline will last for 5 days, for example given on Monday and collected on Friday.

The first assignment should test your ability to analyse grammar in a structured way and give appropriate examples.

Second one will test your ability to teach a lesson. In addition to your usual lesson plans you will need give a detailed example of what you will be teaching one day. For example, I took an article from a newspaper and wrote how I would teach it to my students.

The third one will be interviewing. You will select one of the students from one of the levels and interview him/her to see how this person speaks, whether he/she is capable of giving simple directions to someone who is lost, whether they can survive in an everyday situation and what can be done to improve his/her english-language knowledge.

The last assignment was quite difficult for me. It covers your weaknesses and strengths as a teacher. You have to analyse yourself, your faults and bring solutions for your improvement as a teacher and I am sure you will have known that already when you start teaching actually. Good luck in your course and work really hard!!!
