    Hi there,
I am wanting to take a 4-week TEFL course but have only ‘O’ Level qualifications (forerunner to the GCSE) from my school. I realize that the ‘A’ Level is generally considered as minimum entry requirement but IS ANYBODY LIKELY TO INSIST ON EVIDENCE OR TO CHECK if I were to claim to have the relevant qualifications?

Also, I am unsure whether to study in Bristol, UK or in Andalusia in Spain. Could anyone suggest any pros or cons to either in terms of intensity or difficulty or any information about the quality of schools in these areas.

    Many thanks,
    Steve.

I don’t know if these schools do check qualifications, maybe others have more relevant info to your kind of course or the schools you want to train at, but personally I don’t agree with lying. Someone I know did a training course having had no FE or HE experience whatsoever and did very well. They were upfront about their lack of… and were still assessed as suitable according to their ‘life’ experience.
I’m assuming that you’re mid 30’s or older due to the O level exam, so you must have garnered working experience that will help you in the application and would help you with a TEFL career.

    Hi Steve

I think I’m with Jennifer on this one. I don’t know either if your qualifications would be checked, but I personally wouldn’t lie about them – it may come back to bite you…

Jennifer’s also right that your life experience will count for a lot in your application – think about how some of your experiences in different jobs could be applied to teaching and take it from there.
