    Hi there,

I’m interested in teaching in Ecuador by the end of 2010. I have read that some teachers have taught for years in South America and that +90% of teachers only have 90-day tourist visas and not a working visa. But it’s hard to find very clear information on how to renew. I also read currently that Ecuador will not renew your visa if you are not a Colombian or Peruvian resident.

Is it just simple enough to visit a neighbouring country for a couple days and then return?

Any help and advice would be appreciated!

You CANNOT renew a 90 day tourist visa, even by going to Peru and Colombia and returning to Ecuador. You are allowed 90 days on a tourist visa per year…period. Another option is to get the extended visa, the 12-IX: It costs about $230 dollars, but will allow you to stay for six months and to work LEGALLY.
