Resource centre > Teachers' ideas > Yes or No listening game (YLs)

Language point: Turn whatever you are reviewing into a game!
This is an easy way to reinforce whatever you're teaching, to work on listening, and to quickly inject some fun and energy into a tedious drilling session.
All you need are 4 signs- two "yes"es and two "no"s (I made mine out of cardboard- nothing fancy).
Divide the class into two teams- boys/girls, rows, whatever.
Choose 1 student from each team to come to the front, and give each "yes" and "no" signs.
Then, simply ask questions on whatever you're working on, focusing on whatever you feel needs reinforcing- the students hold up the "yes" or "no" sign depending on whether your sentence is correct (grammatically and/or factually). First to hold up correct sign wins a point for their team. Award an extra point if the student can properly fix a "no" sentence, or let the losing student give it a try.
Examples: for G1, working on plurals and classroom objects: "There are 4 pencil." (NO!) "It's a books." (NO!) "They are books." (YES, unless you're holding up a picture of pencils.)
For G3, working on past tense: "Last night I readed a book." (NO!)
I keep the "yes" "no" signs with me all the time- if the kids are getting bored or need some incentive to listen harder, I whip 'em out!
