Language point: Any grammar or vocab point, Elementary-Advanced Level.
Have a stack of nice pictures from magazines that you cut out, people, places, animals, anything and everything, (Since they are handled often by students, you can put them in plastic sleeves so you won't need to keep cutting out new pictures every time you want to use them!)
Ask your students to pick out pictures, 1 each, they like to choose their own ones. Once every student has a picture, put the students in small groups and tell them they will be telling a story to the class about their pictures. They then work with their group to come up with a story, using the pictures. The group as a whole then presents their story to the class.
This can be fine tuned to focus on specific grammar points (eg: present continuous....The dog is sleeping. Mr. Smith is getting angry with his wife...etc.), or can also be focused on specific vocabulary words you want them to use within the story. (Tell your students they must say ''laugh, read, write, go, forget, and balloon'' in their stories somewhere. You can focus on nouns, verbs, adjectives, That's why it's so cool. You can change the game to suit you and your students. Perhaps you want a group to tell 1 story about 1 picture, or you want the group to tell one story about several pictures. You can have 1 spokesperson come to tell the whole story to the class, or you can have every person in the group talk about his/her individual picture. That's why this game rocks.
