The Bus That Lost It's Wheel

The bus that lost it's wheel didn't stop driving ... though the wheel that the bus lost bounced down the street. The wheel skidded past the shop and down past the zebra crossing. Before long, the wheel sped off into outer space and headed towards Pluto. It skipped through the hole in the ozone layer ... back again and orbited Mars. The wheel bounced some more on Saturn and narrowly missed Mercury - soon the wheel was like a ping pong ball ... and it didn't stop turning until it reached Venus. The lost wheel landed in a crater and circled around like a game of Russian roulette. The lost wheel was still bouncing when it passed a rocket. It zig - zagged between Jupiter and one of Saturn's moons and then it splashed through rain clouds ... and ended up on a satellite. Then the wheel - still turning, of course, headed off past the stars, flying more sparks than meteorites ... very soon it landed on Mars.

Activity
Draw a picture of five different ways to travel - This could be a group activity, using cardboard and other materials. Find five different sets of wheels - For example, pasta, balls of wools, biscuits. Discuss what make a wheel work - why is a good wheel a good wheel ? This could be a good science as well as english exercise on shapes, sizes, materials.
