Dick the Cricket Cricket Wicket Keeper

Posted by Jacqueline Richards

Language point: tongue twisters

Most crickets spend their day sitting on flowers to get out of rain showers, but Dick the cricket wicket keeper, sat on a cricket wicket for hours and hours. Dick the cricket wicket - keeper couldn't afford a proper ticket to the cricket final, so he decided to picket. When the players scored a four, it almost knocked Dick the cricket wicket keeper onto the floor. Dick the cricket wicket keeper decided to champion the match, he won a cup, when the bails went up ... and almost got hit by the bat. As Dick the cricket wicket keeper polished all the dust off the bails, he sneezed a lot, went up in the air and landed right in the middle of the flowerpot. When the team scored a three, Dick the cricket wicket keeper jumped up and down with glee. He ate greenfly instead of cucumber sandwiches every day for his tea. Dick the cricket wicket keeper, decided to mow the lawn. Soon he was bouncing more than the ball - he bounced downstairs and right through the hall. When the wind gave a blast, he fell into the grass as the cricket ball went flying past fast. Very soon he'd met a snail, who helped pick him up and put him back on the bail. Along came a slug, who gave him a big hug ... he too was most helpful in assisting the bug. When Dick the cricket wicket keeper was bored, he polished all the numbers on the cricket scoreboard. Although covered in mud, soon his maths were so good, he didn't need a calculator as most crickets usually should. "Not bad for a grub !", said the slug to the bug, when he saw Dick the cricket wicket keeper coming out of the wood. Dick the cricket wicket keeper, was soon the best shot - he practised so much that he could even hit the ball right into the flowerpot. Dick the cricket wicket keeper liked his home a lot - although he sometimes fell off the bails, it really wasn't that bad a spot. From his wicket he could visit his friends on the nearby pond's lillypad around the bend. It wasn't far to jump to reach the hamburger van by the stadium. His neighbour, the cricket umpire was also quite a fun chap - the pair of them discussed cricket all day and in the Sun went for an occasional nap. Dick the cricket wicket keeper never bought a ticket for cricket - and even if he did, he wouldn't know which seat to pick or where to stick his ticket on his cricket wicket.
