Language point: Vocabulary of description
Since in many cases, the children in a school are just as interrested in the NSET as they are in the lesson, why not use that interrest to your own advantage? During a lesson on things that describe what people do, look like, or wear, Use pictures of family or friends from your own home to apply these descriptive terms.
Start the lesson by going throught he vocabulary for the lesson as normal; this can take as long as is needed. Once you are through with the regular lesosn vocabulary, begin to show the students pictures of your family, friends or co-workers from wherever you come from. Tell the studetns who these people are and ask them to describe the person according to the new vocabulary that you just introduced. The students will be interested in the photos of your home and family and will pay more attention to your lesosn as an activity.
This can even be turned into a game by placing the students in groups and having the groups identify and describe as many things from the photographs as possible. Have the groups compete against each other and then share their descriptions with the rest of the class. this can help them to solidify the information in their minds and will let you share a little of your life with the class.
