Background: A five-year institution of higher education with state-of the-art facilities and excellent support services, Al Yamamah College offers a North American-style education and curriculum in English. In partnership with Al Yamamah, Saudi INTERLINK Language Center (SILC) provides preparative intensive English and academic preparation programs during the “Foundation Year” and business English throughout the students’ stay at the College. The SILC program is based on the same humanistic, holistic and student-centered theories of education as those used in the INTERLINK’s U.S. centers. At the core of INTERLINK’s success in English language training is an abiding respect for and commitment to the students themselves as well as an overarching mission to bridge the distances between countries and cultures by enhancing communication skills.
SILC is seeking creative and flexible educators who are comfortable with and can adapt to a student-centered, project- and needs-based, heuristic, and experiential program. They should feel comfortable in a flexible system of instruction that allows an eclectic approach to teaching and learning. This system is informed by a wide range of research in the field of language learning and held together by a number of distinct yet interrelated pedagogical principles.
During its first year of operation, INTERLINK enrolled 150 students and enrollment has reached approximately 400 students in its second year. With a new division for women and a new college being constructed for women in 2007, enrollment is expected to double or even triple. The growth and the high interest in the success of the College by community and government leaders are helping the College achieve its goals in a shorter than expected period of time.
Responsibilities: The teacher’s primary responsibility is to help students learn English either in preparation for taking academic courses at the College or for improving English for professional and personal purposes. Teachers may also be required to teach classes offered to outside institutions and to members of the business community or general public as part of the teaching load. Specific responsibilities include: 20 hours of weekly instruction; advising students on their progress; assisting students with study skills/learning strategies; helping program administrators with curriculum review, revision, and ongoing assessment, orientation, scheduling, and placement; and serving on College committees, participating in program meetings, and in off-campus activities/events;
