Costa Rica
The program English Volunteers for Change (EVOLC) is driven by the Foundation for Sustainability and Equity (ALIARSE), and Costa Rica Multilingüe, which is a national program initiated by former President and Nobel Peace Prize Winner, Oscar Arias, to make Costa Rica a multilingual country in the coming years. The program aims to contribute to improving the level of English in the rural communities, public schools, and poorest sectors of the country. It is developed under the context of public-private partnerships with chambers of tourism, schools, and local partners who give support to the initiative.
EVOLC in Costa Rica is the very best organization for volunteer teaching English in the country! Our program is unique in that we provide free English classes where there is an immediate need to learn the language. Our volunteer teachers offer classes to children and/or adults in rural/impoverished communities, tourism communities, public schools, as well as organizations and businesses in the public and private sector. By learning and improving the English language skills, students are able to acquire better paying jobs, more career opportunities, a better education, and overall enrich their lives and enhance their futures.
Volunteer teachers will participate in a 3-5 days orientation at our office in Costa Rica’s capital city, San José, and upon finishing the induction week our volunteers will be taken to their respective teaching communities. Volunteer teachers will live with wonderful host families in rural and urban communities throughout the country during their volunteer work. They will be responsible for teaching English classes approximately 20 hours/week and preparing approximately 20 hours/week.
