Resource centre - ESL exams - BULATS
BULATS (The Business Language Testing Service) assesses English language proficiency in a business context. Unlike the BEC, BULATS is not certificated, and is designed to give employers a quick, reliable and flexible method of assessing language skills. Companies and organisations use BULATS to assess language skills of employees and job applicants, place learners on suitable language training courses, screen learners for suitable training courses, recommend suitable standard examinations and provide testing support for language audits.
BULATS is administered by Cambridge ESOL and three European language institutes, the Alliance Française, the Goethe-Institut and the Universidad de Salamanca.
There are four tests. The Computer Test assesses listening and reading skills.
The Standard Test is a paper-based alternative to the Computer Test. The
Speaking Test assesses speaking skills, and the Writing Test assesses writing
skills.
The flexible nature of BULATS means that these tests can be used independently,
or in any combination. They cover work-related areas such as travel, companies
and products, customer service, management, marketing, presentations and
reports.
